Somebody vs Synthesia

Synthesia is best known for AI video. It now also sells real-time products: Interactive Avatars for websites and apps, and Roleplay Sessions for training. Both stream avatar video from Synthesia’s cloud. Somebody renders the face in the visitor’s browser and covers website, roleplay, interviews and meetings in one agent platform.

Which one fits

An honest way to choose.

Choose Synthesia when

Your training already lives in Synthesia

  • You already make Synthesia videos and want roleplay beside them
  • You prefer a price per learner with unlimited practice sessions
  • You want a photorealistic video avatar, or one made from a real person

Choose Somebody when

You want one agent for the site and the training

  • The agent should be present on the page for every visitor, not only after a click
  • It needs to act: navigate, fill forms, build a cart
  • You train people and need scores and an LMS export
  • You want to run on your own OpenAI, Gemini or Azure agreement

What it costs

Synthesia prices its two real-time products differently. Interactive Avatars cost $0.20 per conversation minute when Synthesia runs everything, or $0.10 for the avatar alone when you supply the speech and model. Roleplay Sessions are sold per learner seat at $29 a month, with unlimited sessions for that learner. If a fixed group practises often, a seat price can work out cheaper than paying by the minute.

Somebody counts minutes only while a conversation is active. Pro is $29 a month with 150 avatar minutes on Included AI, or 1,000 on your own AI keys, where your provider bills you separately for the model. Extra minutes are $0.12 with Included AI and $0.03 with your own keys.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Still curious? Ask our agent — it knows the product inside out.

Is Somebody a Synthesia alternative?

For live conversations, yes: a guide on your website, scored roleplay, interviews and meetings. For making videos that people watch, no. Synthesia is a video platform first and Somebody does not make videos.

Both offer scored roleplay. What is different?

Synthesia’s roleplay is a training product with a learner portal and seat pricing, delivered as streamed video. Somebody’s roleplay is one use of the same agent you can also place on a website or send to a meeting, priced by conversation minutes, with the face drawn on the learner’s device.

Can I use both?

Yes. Many teams keep an AI video tool for one-way content and use Somebody where people need to talk back or where the agent has to act on a page.
